Identification
Very large species, reaching up to 2.30 m in length. Large triangular and deep head. Coloration usually beige with clear-edged triangle dark markings on back and flanks. Head sometimes features dark band but not always present.
Range and habitat
This species is found in South America and is endemic to Brazil, occurring in most of the central and south-eastern parts of the country. Lives in dry and semi-arid tropical savannas, in cerrado vegetation, up to 1500 m.

Status : The species has a wide range and remains common in most areas. May be persecuted as it is one of the main causes of snakebites in its range.
