Identification
Adults can reach 37 cm in length for a weight of 200 g. Bill thinner than other toucans and with conspicuous groove near culmen. Plumage green with white throat, blue cheeks and white supercilium. Bill black with red upper mandible. Subspecies with very little amount of pink on lower mandible base.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in South America and is endemic to Venezuela, being found in north and north-east parts of the country. This subspecies is found in the north. Lives in humid montane forests, forest edges, from 300 to 2200 m.

Status : The species has a fairly small range and remains common in protected areas with suitable habitat. Vulnerable to deforestation.
