Identification
Adults can reach 45 cm in length for a weight of 232 g. Bill thinner than other toucans. Plumage green with bright red rump, red tail tips and light blue band on belly. Bill dark red-brown with white base. Red eye-contour.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in South America, in Andean slopes from western Venezuela and north Colombia to north and west Ecuador. Lives in lowland and montane humid forests, from 300 to 2700 m.

Status : The species isn’t currently threatened and occurs in large numbers in most parts of its range. May be vulnerable to deforestation.
