Identification
Adults can reach a maximum length of 69 cm for a weight of 8.2 kg. Elongated oval-shaped and laterally compressed body with elongated snout. Coloration silvery grey with a broad turquoise line running on upper back.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Atlantic Ocean, from Florida, Bermuda and Gulf of Mexico to Caribbean Sea, south to Brazil. Lives in shallow and clear water areas, often near coastal reefs, to 40 m.

Status : The species is very common where habitat is suitable. It is targeted by commercial fisheries but at a low and so far sustainable scale.
