Identification
Adults can reach a length of 12 cm. Round-shaped and laterally compressed body with humped back and big belly. Coloration silvery-gray with shiny reflections on flanks. Reddish-eyes. Black spot on lowest part of anal fin.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in south America and can be found in the main drainages of Guyana and Suriname. Lives in lowland rivers and creeks, rarely in isolated pools.

Status : The species seems to be at least locally common within its range. Still captured for international trade.
