Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 25 cm. Like all basketmouth cichlids, it has a protruding and long mouth. Red eyes. Coloration beige-brown with two vertical black bars on flanks. Blue tinge around mouth, blue markings on fins.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in South America and can be found in the basins of Putumayo and Napo rivers, in Colombia. Lives in rivers, usually close to shore with aquatic vegetation.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species isn’t well known from the wild as its range lies in a guerilla zone. Not too impacted by collection for the aquarium trade so far.
