Identification
The biggest macaw species, reaching a length of 1 m for a weight of 1.6 kg. Huge and powerful black bill. Bright yellow skin around eyes and thinly around bill base. Plumage entirely bright cobalt blue.
Range and habitat
The species occurs as isolated populations around South America, in north central and south central Brazil, and from east Bolivia to Brazil and north Paraguay. Lives around edges of humid forests, wooded savannas with palm stands.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species is highly threatened by habitat destruction and illegal capture for food and animal trade. Legally protected but decline continues.
