Identification
Up to 125 cm body length, weight up to 34.1 kg. Long and broad muzzle, long ears, long and powerful legs. Fur is rufous brown with darker areas on back and tail. Muzzle and paws are white.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is the last extant one yet it is extinct in the wild. There is a single reintroduced population in eastern North Carolina. Lives in prairie, marshes, river forests, swampy areas, agricultural land.

IUCN RED LIST : CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
CITES : Not listed
Status : This species is extinct in the wild and only occurs as a reintroduced population in eastern Carolina. It’s now fairly common in the protected area where it has been reintroduced but its occurrence outside is unknown.
