Identification
Slender moray species reaching around 60 cm in length. Head with big mouth, yellow eyes and a relatively short rounded snout. Body coloration from grey to brown with light belly and many yellow speckles and spots on flanks, sometimes forming clumps or networks of spots. Lips each have one row of small dark-edged yellow round spots, sometimes faint.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in southeast Asia coastal areas, from India to Philippines and south to Indonesia. Reports are known from Hawaii. It lives mostly in muddy estuaries but can be found inland in lower portions of muddy rivers down to 10 meters deep.

Status : This species seems to have a huge range overlapping with many protected areas. However, its habitat is often degraded and polluted as a result of human activities. It isn’t found in the pet trade often.
