Identification
The species can grow to a body length of 60 cm with a tail length up to 57 cm. Males are bigger and have longer tails than females. Fur quite short, brown to grey brown, turning cream to white ventrally. Tail very thinly furred. Relatively slim and elongated nose with a white-yellow moustachial band. Broad cream hip band visible on hindlimbs.
Range and habitat
The species occurs on the island of New Guinea in a narrow band in the extreme south of the island as well as the extreme southeast (although it is likely extinct there now). There are two additional isolated populations on Aru and Kai islands. The species can only be found in tropical humid forests, gallery forests, degraded forests and moasic of forest and savannah.

Status : The species seems to be very sensitive to hunting and deforestation. The southeastern populations located near Port Moresby have been extirpated.
