Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
This species is said to grow to 4 cm but it likely gets a bit longer. It is dark-grey colored with large flank scales lightly edged black, giving a faint criss-cross pattern on flanks. Large eyes. Fins unpatterned and unspotted. Fairly thick black line on middle flanks from gill coverts to tail, sometimes barely noticeable, and with a thin red to orange line above. Tail peduncle with an indistinct dark blotch.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in southeast Asia, from south Thailand (Tapi river basin) to most of Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore and east-central Sumatra. It is mostly found in rivers and forest streams, in clear water, with gravel bottom.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a large range and seems to be locally common to abundant. Besides water pollution and possible loss of habitat, there are no known threats for this species’ survival at this time.
