Identification
The species grows to 69 cm in body length for a shoulder height of 35 cm and a weight of 4,5 kg. Very thin legs. Long black snout. Dark golden-brown fur, white stripes on breast and neck. Subspecies dark mottled brown and black-brown with prominent white throat markings and no mask.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in south Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo. Species found from south Thailand to Sumatra, Borneo and nearby islands. Lives in primary and secondary rainforests, possibly swampy areas, to 1100 m.

Status : The species is still locally common but is occasionally hunted and could be threatened by loss of habitat. The status of insular subspecies is unknown.
