Identification
The species can reach 19,5 cm in length for a weight of 34 g. All black head with erect curved crest, yellow eyes. Subspecies with dull olive green upper parts with close to no golden suffusion. Breast and belly dull golden yellow. Subspecies with little to no gold suffusion on upperparts, coloration being darker olive-green than most other subspecies.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found in extreme south Myanmar and Thailand as well as north Peninsular Malaysia. Species occurs from east and north India, Nepal, south China to north Malaysia. Lives in open forests, forest edges, plantations and orchards, to 2565 m.

Status : The species can benefit from deforestation and is adaptable but cannot survive in too urbanized areas. Globally common despite trapping for trade.
