Identification
Maximum length is 50 cm. The species is recognized by a round black spot just behind eyes. Body coloration is brownish. Dorsal fin yellow with blue base. Tail is elongated. Head bluish-grey with yellow areas. Small wavy lines on flanks.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area and is found from East African coasts (Mozambique) and Maldives to Indonesia and western Pacific ocean. Lives in clear seaward reefs, usually at depths between 10 and 50 meters.

Status : The species is at least locally common within its range. It’s targeted by collectors for aquarium trade but this hasn’t caused any decline so far.
