Identification
Back is beige-grey to brown with dark spotting. Belly is white or buff. Heart-shaped facial disk with color depending on subspecies. Subspecies more golden buff above, larger black spots on belly.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found from Malay Peninsula to Greater and Lesser Sundas (Indonesia). Occurs in wide variety of habitats, such as open lowlands with trees or man-made structures and cities.

Status : The species has a huge range and is overall common and safe. Some subspecies (especially insular ones) may be at risk from persecution, loss of prey or habitat.
