Identification
Silvery bill with black edges. Plumage almost entirely blue except black flight feathers. Face, breast and belly clearer blue, wings dark with bright blue shoulder patch. Whitish thighs.
Range and habitat
Endemic to coastal southeast Brazil, from southeast Bahia to north Rio Grande do Sul. Found in humid mountain forests, open woodlands and forest edges, to 1600 m.

Status : Restricted range species. Dependent on forest more than other tanagers and vulnerable to widespread habitat loss. Rarely caught for trade.
