Identification
The species reaches 25 cm in length for a weight of 83 g. Green plumage with red inside of wings and dark brown tail. Subspecies with black crown intersped with green and blue, small clear grey edges to brown, green and blue breast.
Range and habitat
Subspecies found in Amazon basin, from Southeast Colombia and Venezuela to Brazil and northeast Peru. Species occurs in north half of South America. Lives in premontane wet forests, cloud forests, forest edges, to 3200 m.

Status : The species has been traded in significant numbers in the past but not anymore. Habitat loss is a threat in parts of the range.
