Identification
Adults grow to 32 cm in length for a weight of 400 g. Black bill with pinkish-grey upper mandible. Plumage dark blackish-grey with light grey belly. Vinous maroon-red tail. Clear eyes and clear grey area around eyes and cheeks.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in western Africa, in a small area from south Guinea to Ivory Coast (west of Comoé river). Isolated populations in Guinea-Bissau and Mali. Lives in lowland forests, woodlands, savannas and suburban gardens, to 2200 m.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species has been undergoing a rapid decline because of habitat loss coupled with unsustainable capture rate, especially for local trade.
