Identification
Upper mandible red-orange, lower mandible black. Green plumage, turquoise back, very long blue tail feathers. Broad black stripes on face, pink-red cheeks, dark green crown for this subspecies.

Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs in Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Borneo, Sumatra, Nias and Bangka. Found in coastal mangroves, swamp and rain forests, plantations, to 300 m.

Conservation
IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has experienced continuous declines because of loss of habitat and breeding sites in particular. Recently, more and more specimens are exported for trade from Malaysia.
