Identification
Very long and large black bill. Plumage mostly green, yellow tinge on flanks. Female with blue cheeks, forehead and red crown. Male has red crown and throat, yellow forehead and cheeks.

Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs from south Myanmar and Thailand to Sumatra and Borneo. Found in lowland and foothills dipterocarp forests, plantations, mostly in the canopy, to 1060 m.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is still locally common but is under threat from deforestation in most of its range. Its biology is still poorly known and needs to be studied if we are to take conservation measures.
