Identification
Small barbet with large black bill. Green back, wings and tail. Cream belly with rows of green spots. Subspecies with yellow face edged black, red forehead and yellow throat with red band.

Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs on Mainland Asia, from Pakistan to south China, south to Sri Lanka and Singapore. Found in forest edges and clearings, plantations, woodlands, gardens, to 2250 m.

Status : The species is very widespread and locally abundant. It could be the world’s most common barbet species in the wild. Caught for the trade but in small numbers. Very adaptable.
