Identification
The species can reach 36 cm long for a weight up to 401 g. Green breast and belly, grey-brown head (female has red-orange forehead and cheeks), mantle dark green. Subspecies with brown tinge to head and grey-green mantle.
Range and habitat
Subspecies found patchily from Gambia to Nigeria and north Angola. Species also occurs from DR Congo to Tanzania, Botswana and northeast South Africa. Lives in woodlands, riparian forests, mature wooded savannas, to 4000 m.

CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has been threatened by habitat loss and loss of nesting sites combined with capture for the pet trade. Both subspecies are impacted.
