Identification
Female light beige brown with light streaks on head. Wings black and buff. Male has yellow head except for dark facial mask, yellow breast, white belly, yellow back, black and buff wings.
Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs from south Myanmar and Cambodia to Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java and Bali. Found in open country near water, grasslands, mangroves, cultivated areas.

Status : This species has a large range and is quite numerous in parts of it but declining to even extinct in Java and Bali. Introduced but not established in Hawaii and Hong Kong.
