Identification
Female light orange-beige with darker brown wings and clear bill. Male mostly bright yellow with black bill and facial mask. Wings and tail black with yellow edges to most of feathers.
Range and habitat
Subspecies found on Sumatra and Java. The species also occurs in Southeast Asia, from Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. Found in marshes, rice paddies, flooded grasslands, always in lowlands near water.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Not Listed
Status : This species is more and more endangered because of the destruction of wetlands for agriculture. Nominate subspecies, in Indonesia, is trapped in huge numbers for the trade.
