Identification
Male unmistakable, blue head, bright red breast and belly, peach rump, yellow-green back, red eye-ring. Female green with yellow eye-ring and clear bill.

Range and habitat
South USA, from Kansas to Texas and Lousiana, and nearby North Mexico, and from north Carolina to north Florida. Migrates to south USA and Central America.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : This species’ habitat is not well studied and likely degraded. Seems to favor open areas and scrub with stands of vegetation. Trapped in thousands for the trade, still trapped in Central America.
