Identification
Plumage mostly maroon-brown. Yellow eyes. Male has bright yellow top of head and nape, iridescent green cheeks, yellow and beige ornamental plumes. Subspecies bigger, darker breast.

Range and habitat
Subspecies endemic to Aru islands, off Western New Guinea. Found in lowland and hill forests, up to 950 meters above sea level.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : Restricted range species, still relatively common and widespread but males are shot in large numbers for their feathers and both sexes captured for illegal trade. Very rarely bred in captivity.
