Identification
Grey and rufous-brown morphs, black edged face, buff eyebrows, forehead and ear-tufts, dark brown crown. Wings densely marked with black and buff spots, belly with faint black streaks.
Range and habitat
Subspecies endemic to north and central Sumatra (Indonesia). Found in second-growth forests, forest edges, plantations and gardens with scattered trees, to 2400 m.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : Very adaptable species, often found near human settlements and having clearly benefited from deforestation. The most common owl species in Greater Sundas.
