Identification
Male has black crown, nape, back and tail. Wings black and white, grey rump, white vent and belly, light grey breast, white face with black eye band. Female has light brown streaks on breast.
Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs in south Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, west Java and nearby small islands. Found in open woodlands, gardens, cultivated areas, mangroves, to 1550 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is only locally common and favors areas with large trees, especially in coastal plains. Locally caught for trade in Indonesia but this doesn’t seem to be a threat at this time.
