Identification
The species grows to 76 cm in length for a weight of 1,5 kg. Head and upper neck naked with black skin. White neck, breast and legs with straw-beige ornamental plumes on lower neck. Wings and tail black, blue to purple iridescence.

Range and habitat
This species is endemic to Australia, being found in most of the country except western-central arid areas. Vagrant to south New Guinea and Tasmania. Lives in open forests, dry grasslands, cultivated fields, wetlands, gardens.

Status : This species is common to abundant. It has expanded its range with the conversion of forests but loss of wetlands can be a threat for breeding.
