Identification
Large species with conspicuous white hood, crest, head and breast, black band from bill to nape. Brown and chestnut body. Subspecies with white extending to lower belly, rufous chestnut wings.
Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs in southeast Myanmar, northeast, northwest and southeast Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and south China. Found in forests, plantations and gardens, to 2135 m.

Status : The species is fairly common and quite adaptable, even occurring near cities. Escapees have established themselves further south to Singapore. Caught for the trade but this is no threat so far.
