Identification
Plumage rich orange-rufous on upperside, tail and wings. Slightly curved bill, underparts from beige to white, grey crown. Subspecies larger, with longer bill and white to yellow iris.
Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs from southwest Colombia to west Ecuador and northwest Peru. Found in semi-open habitats, mostly near water, including pastures and suburban gardens, to 2700 m.

Status : The species is common and widespread. It seems to be adaptable and lives in many protected areas. Catching for trade is minimal and not considered a threat. Very rare in aviculture.
