Identification
Small head with distinctive yellow eyes and white snout. Coloration white with broken transversal black bands forming blotches with large bright yellow dots. Faint black markings on white.

Range and habitat
The species occurs from Red Sea and east Africa to Baja California and Colombia, to Lord How Island and south-east Atlantic Ocean. Lives in rocky and coral-rich areas of reefs and lagoons.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has the widest range of any moray. It is common in suitable habitat and not believed to be threatened at this time. Commonest moray species in the trade and under human care.
