Identification
Reddish-brown ground color with groups of two vertical bands on flanks. Two dark brown bands on face, rest of face clearer. Pectoral fin rays striped red and yellow, not free. Spotted fins.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific region, from Red Sea and East Africa to Samoa, north to south Japan, south to Lord Howe Island. Found around coastal to outer reef habitats, lagoons and caves, to 115 meters deep.

Status : The species is widespread and can be locally abundant, especially around caves. It is caught for the trade but this isn’t considered to be a threat.
