Identification
Bright green plumage (often turning blue in captivity), red-brown wings with black edge and prominent white-blue spots. Broad black face band, red eyes and bright red bill. Smallest subspecies, with all green crown and smaller white markings at end of tertials.

Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs on Sumatra and Borneo, possibly in Peninsular Malaysia too. Found in foothill forests, forest edges, plantations, often near watercourses, to 2100 m.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species could be vulnerable to deforestation in parts of its range but it can withstand changes in its habitat, making its future fairly safe for now. Indonesian subspecies caught for trade.
