Identification
Unmistakable. Brown female with streaked underparts. Male bright red with black spot above eye, iridescent green rim on breast, white belly. Elongated tail feathers with disk-shape tips.

Range and habitat
Most of New Guinea except from central mountain ranges, also in West Papuan islands. Found in lowland rainforests, gallery forests, forest edge, up to 950 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has a wide range but is patchily distributed. It can be very common in areas of occurrence. Probably threatened by deforestation and caught occasionally for trade.
