Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Body color mostly blue, duller and more violet near back and belly, much brighter near central parts of flanks. Snout yellowish. All fins bright to dull yellow, dull yellowish tail peduncle.

Range and habitat
Western Pacific Ocean, from Samarai Island (off Papua New Guinea) to Coral Sea, Great Barrier reef and east Australia. Found around sandy areas, near rubble and dead coral outcrops.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species lives in areas where habitat loss has become a major issue. However, it doesn’t seem to rely on living corals. It is harvested for trade in parts of its range, monitoring is needed.
