Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Large species with bulbous forehead and prominent white teeth-plates. Global coloration dark brown-black with dark blue tinge. Blue edges to fins. Tail fin with numerous broom-like filaments.

Range and habitat
Patchy range in the Indian Ocean, around Sri Lanka, west Sumatra near Simeulue and north-west Australia. Found in inshore rocky reefs.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a disjunct distribution. Some of its populations are safe but the species is caught for food (more rarely for trade) around Sri Lanka. Monitoring is needed.
