Identification
Adults can grow to a size of 1,05 m for a weight of 2,3 kg. Plumage mostly white with black flight feathers. Slight pink tinge on wings. Bright red legs and naked skin on head. Very long, slightly curved, bright yellow bill.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in sub-Saharan Africa, from Senegal to Ethiopia, south to South Africa. Isolated populations in Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Madagascar. Lives in all kinds of wetlands, rice fields and sometimes artificial ponds in cities.

Status : The species is common to abundant in most of its range. It isn’t known to be persecuted and seems to be facing no threats.
