Identification
Body length of 41 cm, tail length of 26.2 cm, weight of 1.7 kg. Males are slightly larger than females. Elongated nose. Fur mostly brown with a grizzled aspect. Dark brown tail. White chin, breast and belly.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in coastal regions of eastern and southern Australia. Also occurs on Tasmania and nearby islands. Lives in woodlands, eucalyptus forests, rainforests with dense ground cover.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is locally numerous but most mainland Australian populations are declining because of loss of habitat and predation by alien species.
