Identification
Adults can grow to 30 cm in length for a weight of 184 g. Grey cap, rest of head and neck with purple and green iridescence. Back dark grey, wings with grey and black bars. Belly light buff, clear red patch on lower breast.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to northern Philippines and is found on most of Luzon, Polillo and Catanduanes islands. Lives in primary and secondary humid forests, to 1400 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species is likely declining throughout its range because of deforestation and occasionally capture for local trade. Very shy and difficult to see.
