Identification
Adults can reach 43 cm in length for a weight of 430 g. Bright red legs, bill with slightly clear tip, prominent bright red eye-ring and clear eyes. Plumage mostly pure white except for light grey wings and white-spotted black flight feathers.
Range and habitat
The species occurs around Australia, Tasmania, New Caledonia, New Zealand and nearby islands. Lives in sandy and rocky shores, inland parks, rubbish dumps and fields.

Status : The species seems to be abundant within its range and its populations are steadily increasing. It faces no known threats at this time.
