Identification
Adults grow to 9 cm. Lower flanks with alternating dark yellow and grey-white vertical bands. Two red bands on face. Mid-flanks band black with two black-edged square red spots. Upper flanks reddish-orange. Black dots on dorsal fin.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Atlantic Ocean, from Bermuda and south Florida to Guatelama, Honduras, Lesser Antilles and Venezuelan coasts. Lives in rocky and coral reefs, over sandy, rocky and rubble bottoms, to 86 m.
