Identification
Adults can grow to 91 cm long for a weight of 6,8 kg. Blunt spines on gill coverts. Coloration bright red with poorly-defined pinkish blotches forming saddles and broken bands. Pelvic, anal and caudal fins with broad dark edges.
Range and habitat
This species is found in the eastern Pacific ocean, from British Columbia (Canada) to central Baja California (Mexico). Mostly found in rocky reefs, from 15 to 274 meters deep.
