Identification
Adults grow to 35 cm. Back yellowish, flanks whitish with longitudinal yellow lines and black spot. Very similar to L. ehrenbergii but black spot smaller and better defined, yellow lines less defined and presence of a dark line from snout to eye.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from the Persian Gulf, Red Sea and east Africa to Samoa, north to Ryukyu islands, south to north Australia. Lives in coral reefs near coastal areas and deep lagoons, down to 35 meters deep.

Status : The species is widespread and still relatively abundant in parts of its range. It is a major component in fisheries and declines have been noted.
