Identification
Adults reach a disk width of 66 cm for a total length of 138 cm. Broad disk with triangular snout. Three rows of clear spines on back. Coloration reddish to greenish brown, yellow patches near eyes. White belly with broad yellow margins.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, from Korea and east China to Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Lives in coral reefs, estuaries, muddy and sandy bottoms, to 100 meters deep.

Status : The species is an important part of fisheries in Japan and China. Declines are noted because of pollution and overfishing in most of its range.
