Identification
Adults will grow to 15 cm long. Coloration mostly white to silvery-white with rows of grey-black dots on flanks. Back and back-side of flanks black, forming a triangular shape. Dorsal and part of anal fin yellow. Bright yellow band on face.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the central Pacific Ocean where it occurs around the Hawaiian islands, Johnston Atoll and Marshall Islands. Lives nearby steep reef slopes, from 27 to 180 meters deep.

Status : The species remains quite common and most of its range lies beyond depth accessible to fish collectors. Occasionally captured for the trade.
