Identification
The species grows to 77 cm in body length, 39 cm tail length and weight of 7 kg. Fairly small grey head, white ear patches and chin. Neck clear grey-white with thick black bands. Black back, grey flanks with rows of dark round spots.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in Southeast Asia, in Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and nearby islands. Other subspecies found on Langkawi Island. Lives in primary and secondary forests, cultivated lands and villages, to 2100 m.

Status : The species still has a large range and is tolerant to living in degraded habitats. Regularly caught for exploitation and habitat loss could be a threat.
