Identification
The species grows to 69 cm in body length for a shoulder height of 35 cm and a weight of 4,5 kg. Very thin legs. Long black snout. Dark golden-brown fur, white stripes on breast and neck. Subspecies with black mask and more rufous fur.

Range and habitat
Subspecies endemic to Tioman, Riau and Lingga islands. Species found from south Thailand to Sumatra, Borneo and nearby islands. Lives in primary and secondary rainforests, possibly swampy areas, to 1100 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is still locally common but is occasionally hunted and could be threatened by loss of habitat. The status of insular subspecies is unknown.
