Identification
The species grows to 90 cm. Head with triangular profile, long snout, hump on back. Males with straight horn starting on forehead at eye-level. Coloration dark olive-grey, darker on upper half of flanks. Black blotch on upper tail peduncle.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area from East Africa to Marquesas Islands, north to south Japan south to Australia. Lives in deep coastal areas, around rocky shores, from 8 to 30 meters deep.

Status : The species is widespread and common in its range. It is locally targeted by fisheries but there are no declines noted so far.
