Identification
Adults can grow to 16 cm. Mouth downturned, two small barbels on snout. Coloration dark olive on belly, back even darker. Broad black longitudinal band from snout to tail, thinner yellow band on top. Upper flank scales without dark edges.
Range and habitat
The species is native to southeast Asia, being found in Peninsular Malaysia, central parts of Sumatra and southwest Borneo. Lives in rivers, hill streams, migrating to flood plains during wet season.

Status : The species is probably still numerous in the wild but its taxonomic status is uncertain. Threatened by habitat loss and pollution.
